Voter Education
We make voting easier through varied voter education programs.
Mock Elections.
The League of Women Voters Education Fund conducts voter service and citizen education activities. It is a nonpartisan nonprofit public policy educational organization, which:
- Builds citizen participation in the democratic process.
- Studies key community issues at all government levels in an unbiased manner.
- Enables people to seek positive solutions to public policy issues through education and conflict management.
Donations to the Education Fund, a 501(c)(3)corporation, are fully tax-deductible where allowed by law.
Student Mock Elections
- Student Mock Elections is a civic education program that addresses voter education and attitudes by working with young people through the schools. California Secretary of State Debra Bowen and Superintendent of Public Instruction launched MYVOTE to encourage and inspire a new generation of voters
The purpose of Mock Election is to reduce the apathy and sense of powerlessness that young people and, in many cases, their families have about voting and to cultivate a sense of the power of participation.
Evaluation survey responses from past Mock Elections show that the Mock Election activities work to accomplish these goals. In California, the Mock Election civic education activities assist in implementing the State's K-12 History and Social Science curriculum standards.
The National Student/Parent Mock Election (NSPME) is the parent organization for the Mock Elections programs held in the 50 states.
MyVote California Student Mock Election, will take place on Thursday, October 30, 2008, only a few days before California's November 4 Presidential General Election.
